He gave the Brown Medal for the "best and fairest" player in the Fremantle Ex-scholars' Association. He… was a keen supporter of junior tennis. At a meeting of the WA. That Ross Edwards (16), of Dalgety street, East Fremantle, came by his death on August 24 at the Fremantle Hospital from injuries received when he was accidentally crushed between a brick wall and a motor truck driven by Clarence Frederick Harwood, was the finding recorded by the Acting-Coroner (Mr. W. F. Samson, J. P.) after an inquest in the Fremantle Courthouse yesterday. Harwood, a truck driver employed by Harris, Scarfe and Sandovers, Ltd., said that on the afternoon of August 24 the lad was crushed by his vehicle as he was driving into a laneway off William-street, Fremantle, with a load of paper for Spicers and Detmold, Ltd. The lad, who worked for the same company as witness, was awaiting him in the laneway with a message. There was only a few inches clearance on each side. Witness told the boy to wait a minute and then looked to the right as he slowly drove off the roadway. The boy evidently attempted to clamber on to the truck and was caught in doing so. Witness reversed the vehicle and the lad was immediately taken to the Fremantle Hospital Dr. O. Mater said that Edwards died a few minutes after admission to the hospital. Death was due to hemorrhage and shock caused by a ruptured liver. Mr. N. de B. Cullen appeared for the lad's relatives and Sergeant Alexander examined the witnesses. (reference)
