ARCHITECTURE

No 45 Canning Highway is a single storey building constructed in limestone and brick with a hipped corrugated iron roof. It is a simple expression of the Federation Bungalow style. The front elevation is symmetrically planned with a centrally placed front door flanked by pairs of windows. The facade features a full width verandah with a hipped roof. The verandah is on timber posts over a timber floor. Steps lead down to the garden. The entrance is emphasised by a small gable in the verandah roof. The place has been modified, but retains its basic form.

HISTORY

No. 45 (previously was no. 87) Glyde street is one of a pair of residences constructed in limestone and brick with a hipped corrugated iron roof. It is a good example of a Federation Bungalow style duplex half house. The original front elevation is obscured by a brick verandah infill. The front elevation is asymmetrically planned with a door flanked by small pane windows. The facade features a full-width bullnosed roof verandah supported between flanking parapet walls.

Inter-War, Gable Porch House Bungalow

No 45 Fraser Street is a single storey house constructed in timber framing and weatherboard cladding with a hipped corrugated iron roof. It is a fine expression of the Federation Bungalow style. The place is located on a corner lot that addresses Fraser Street and Easton Street. It is asymmetrically composed with a full width return hipped roof verandah. The verandah is supported on timber posts with post brackets. A vertical timber balustrade spans between the posts. A set of masonry steps lead down from the verandah to the garden. There is a central door and hopper light flanked by sidelights and single pane double hung sash windows.

The front elevation is asymmetrically planned with a thrust gable bay and part width skillion roofed verandah. The verandah is supported on timber columns with a decorative frieze. The half-timbered gable bay features a decorative window. There is a central door flanked by a double hung sash window.

HISTORY

1914 The funeral of the late Thomas John Sampey, eldest son of Mr. John Sampey, of the East Fremantle Municipal Council, and also a member of the Joshua Harwood Juvenile Lodge, M.U. I.O.O.F, took place on Saturday afternoon, the 14th Inst, and was largely attended. No. 45 (previously was no. 111) Duke Street is a single-storey cottage of timber framing and jarrah weatherboard cladding with a gabled corrugated iron roof. A two-storey later addition is evident to the rear.

The place is consistent with the pattern of development in Plympton and plays an important role in the pattern of development of a working class suburb.

No 45 Bedford Street is a single storey house constructed in tuck-pointed brick and rendered brick with a hipped corrugated iron roof. It is a very fine expression of the Federation Bungalow style with some Arts and Crafts influences. The front elevation is asymmetrically planned with a part width return broken back roofed verandah. The verandah is set on turned timber posts. A St Andrew’s cross balustrade spans between the posts. There is a central door and hopper light flanked by sidelights and casement windows. There is a bay window facing on to Bedford Street. The roofscape features render capped chimneys. Render bands run across the facade.

The verandah is supported on timber columns with a decorative frieze. The half-timbered gable bay features a decorative window. There is a central door flanked by a double hung sash window.

It is asymmetrically composed with a full-width and return hip roofed verandah. The George Street elevation features an offset door and hopper light flanked by sidelights and a set of casement windows.
