Late Interwar / Bungalow Porch House w Arts & Crafts Influences

No 81 Dalgety Street -’Nasese’’- is a single storey house constructed in limestone and brick with a hipped and gable tiled roof. The front elevation is asymmetrically planned with a gable thrust bay flanked by a hip roofed verandah. The prominent gable features double hung sash windows under a sunhood. The entry door has been relocated to the addition at the rear. The roofscape features rendered chimneys.

1944 Flying-Officer. Peter Miller, instructor in the Eastern States, now completing eight days home leave, was entertained at tea by Mayor Gibson, M.L.C., today. Miller was the first A.T.C. cadet from No. 76 Squadron (Fremantle) to gain a commission in the R.A.A.F. Nineteen years of age, he is the only son of Mr. and Mrs. J. L. Federation Free Classical style

No 77-85 George Street is a fine two storey building comprised of shops and residences. The place is constructed in rendered masonry with low pitched roofs behind a classically derived parapet wall. The shops are designed as a corner and mid-block suite building. There is a separate entrance for the sole residence on Sewell Street. The corner shop has a corner entrance. A cantilevered awning follows the line of the building and spans across most of the facades. Most of the shop fronts have been modified. Above the awning are pairs of single pane double hung sash windows surrounded with rendered architraves. Each pair of windows identifies a dwelling. A pilaster divides each shop and residence. The top of the parapet is terminated with an entablature. There are a further two single storey shops attached to the eastern side of the building.

George Daniel Robertson (79), of 83 George-street, East Fremantle, who on Tuesday night was reported to be missing, was found about 7.10 a.m. yesterday in a waiting shed in Stirling-highway, near the rope works, and was taken to his home. No 81 (previously known as No 151) Hubble Street is a single story house constructed in timber framing and weatherboard sheeting with a hipped and gabled corrugated iron roof. It is a simple expression of the Federation Bungalow style. The place is asymmetrically planned with a gabled thrust bay and a part width skillion roofed verandah. The verandah is supported on square timber posts over a timber floor. A simple timber handrail is fitted between the posts. There is a central door flanked by double hung sash windows. The thrust bay features the same window.

No 81 Alexandra Road is a single storey house constructed in limestone, tuck pointed brick and rendered brick with hipped and gable tiled roof. It is a fine expression of the Inter-War Mediterranean style. The place is located on a corner lot that addresses both Alexandra Road and Coolgardie Avenue. It is asymmetrically composed with a thrust gable bay and a flat roofed entry porch. The entry porch is supported on rendered pillars. A steel balustrade spans between the pillars. The gable bay features a pair of double hung sash windows under a sunhood. There is a central door flanked by side lights and a double hung sash window. The roofscape features a rendered chimney and finials. Lower walls are face brick and the upper walls are rendered. The place is built on a limestone foundation.

No. 81 (previously was no. 145) Glyde street is a single storey houses constructed of limestone and brick with hipped corrugated iron roofs. The front elevation is symmetrically planned with a full width bullnosed roof verandah supported between parapet walls. The verandah is supported on timber posts over a timber floor. The timber decks have been extended partially over the front garden. Front doors have hopper lights and are located adjacent to the party wall. The doors are flanked by double hung sash windows with side lights. All openings have brick quoins. A series of stairs lead from street level to the garden and to the verandah.

No. 81 (previously was no. 165) Sewell street is a single story cottage constructed in timber framing, weatherboard and fibrous cement cladding with a hipped corrugated iron roof. It is a simple expression of the Federation Bungalow style. The front elevation is a asymmetrically planned with an offset entry door flanked by a double hung sash window. The facade features a full width return skillion roofed verandah supported on timber posts. A part of the verandah has been enclosed with lattice screens. An awning has been added to the front section of the verandah. The roof features a large brick chimney stack.

It is asymmetrically composed with a thrust gable bay and a part width skillion roofed verandah. The verandah is supported on timber posts with a timber frieze. The verandah terminates at the gable bay. The gable bay features a set of casement lights in a bay window. There is a central door flanked by sidelights and sets of casement windows. There are rendered bands and windows have decorative sills. The roofscape features a render capped chimney and finials.

1939 Birth on September 27, at Hillcrest, North Fremantle, to Mr. and Mrs. E. Deveson, of 81 Fraser-street, East Fremantle—a daughter (Beverley Anne). Both well. (reference)

1943 Air Gunner Makes Good. Mentioned as having taken part in a heavy raid on Nuremburg on Tuesday night, 27-year-old Flight Sergeant Edward O. Deveson, of Fraser Street, East Fremantle, studied hard to become an air gunner. His wife revealed that her husband worked conscientiously for several months to qualify for air crew. He left the North Fremantle State school when in the ninth standard, went to work at Westralian Soaps Ltd., rising to the position of foreman before war broke out. Anxious to fly, he attended Fremantle Technical School four nights a week for six months while awaiting a call-up in the R.A.A.F. His wife said that even when he came home from school Deveson went on studying late into the night.He trained in W.A. and in the Eastern States, arriving in England last January.Flight-Sergt. Deveson will be 28 in October. His younger brother Roy, who was also employed by Westralian Soaps Ltd., has been reported prisoner-of-war in Malaya. Parents Mr and Mrs A.
