ARCHITECTURE
Federation, Villa w Arts & Crafts / Queen Anne Influences
No. 75 (previously was no. 131) Glyde street is a single storey residence constructed in rendered brickwork with a gabled tiled roof. It is an example of a Federation period house adapted in both the Inter-War period and Post-World-War II Era. The front elevation is asymmetrically planned with a central door and hopper light flanked by windows. The door has a side light to one side. The facade features a full width skillion roofed return verandah. The verandah is supported on Tuscan columns on a rendered masonry balustrade.
HISTORY
1919 Birth on December 5, at 131 Glyde-street, East Fremantle, to Mr. and Mrs. H. S. Smith—a son (Evan Herbert Francis). (reference)
1926 Dear Auntie Kitty, I was very glad when I saw my name in "Letters Acknowledged." It has been very wet and cold down here this last week. One day we were looking for our cat, Dandy, to have a game with him, but we could not find him anywhere, so we gave up the hunt. I happened to go into the pantry for something and there was Dandy curled up inside a half-finished basket and scolded him. We are having our half-yearly examination and hope to pass it...I remain, your loving niece, Rose Wakeham, 131 Glyde-street, East Fremantle. (reference)
