Federation, Georgian Domestic Carpenter
No. 76 (previously was no. 142) Glyde street is a single storey cottage constructed in timber framing and weatherboard cladding with a hipped corrugated iron roof. It is a simple expression of the Federation Bungalow style. The place has been adapted in several stages including restoration works in 2014. There is a new verandah opening and an addition at the rear. The front elevation is symmetrically planned with a central door flanked by double hung sash windows. The facade features a full width hipped roofed verandah supported on timber posts.
HISTORY
1915 Second prize is awarded to Muriel Shields, 142 Glyde-street, East Fremantle, for hint—To Clean Soiled And Sunburnt Hats. Stir a teaspoonful of powdered sulphur into the juice of a lemon. Brush this well into the hat with an old toothbrush. When quite clean, place it under the tap and let the water run over it till all the sulphur is washed off. Dry in a shady place. To restore the glossy appearance, brush the hat over with the white of an egg. (reference)
1915 First prize is awarded to Muriel Shields, 142 Glyde-street, East Fremantle, for hint "Ladders" In Stockings. To prevent "ladders" from appearing in stockings machine them round the top once or twice before wearing, and the result will be no more "ladders." (reference)
