ARCHITECTURE

Interwar Decorated Porch House Bungalow w Art Deco Influences

No 6 Stratford Street is a single storey house constructed in rendered brick with a hipped tiled roof. It is a simple expression of the Inter-War Porch style. It is asymmetrically composed with a thrust bay and a flat roofed porch. A curved bulkhead sits below the porch roof. The porch is supported on Doric columns. The entry door is located under the porch and is rotated 45 degrees from the predominant building plane. The roofscape features a brick chimney and finials.

HISTORY

1939 Motorcycle Accident. Harold Henrick Griffiths, single, of 6 Stratford-street, East Fremantle broke his right forearm broke when his motorcycle skidded early yesterday morning. Griffiths was making a left-hand turn from Canning-highway into Allen-street, East Fremantle, and his machine skidded on the wet road. He was treated at a doctor's surgery and was then taken in a private car to the Fremantle Hospital. (reference)
