No 26 Hamilton Street ‘’Mee Dally’’ is a single storey house constructed in limestone and brick with a hipped corrugated iron roof. It is a fine expression of the Federation Bungalow style. The front elevation is asymmetrically planned with a full width return bullnose verandah. The verandah is supported on turned timber posts. There is a central door and hopper light flanked by sidelights and bay windows. The bay windows extend above the verandah line and feature double hung sash windows. The roofscape features rendered chimneys

HISTORY

1929 The engagement is announced of Bride (Betty), elder daughter of Mr. and Mrs. C. F. Burrowes, 26 Hamilton-street, East Fremantle, to Charles, second son of Mr. and Mrs. C. A. Jansson, Stockholm, Sweden. (reference)

1934 Accident. The Fremantle traffic police are anxious to get in touch with the driver of a truck involved in an accident with a motor car in Canning-road, East Fremantle, on Sunday night. It is reported that the truck driver did not stop after the accident, as a result of which a woman and her child were injured. About 8 p.m. on Sunday Mrs. Ellen G. Burrows, of 28 Hamilton-street, East Fremantle, drove her car from Hamilton-street into Canning-road and was proceeding east. About 25 yards from the corner a motor truck travelling in the opposition direction scraped the side of the car, smashing the windscreen and hood stays... (reference)
1935 Death on May 2, at Albany, Charles Frederick, beloved husband of Ellen Georgina Burrowes, of ‘’Mee Dally’’, 26 Hamilton-street, East Fremantle, and loving father of Bride (Mrs. C.A. Jansson), Laurence, Bernard, Brian and Gabrielle; and grandfather of Marjorie, Stella and Veronica Burrowes, and Paul Jansson; aged 64 years. (reference)

1935 The funeral of the late Mr. Charles Frederick Burrowes, proprietor of the Caxton Press, Perth and Fremantle, and of ‘’Meg Dally’’, 26 Hamilton-street,East Fremantle, took place on Saturday morning. The cortege proceeded to the Fremantle Cemetery...Mr. Burrowes, who was born at Ennis, County Clare, Ireland, came to this State in 1910, and had been engaged in the printing business ever since. He was manager of the Fremantle Printery for 10 years, and then commenced business on his own account. He founded the Caxton Press in Fremantle, and later opened a branch in Perth. Friendly society affairs occupied his keen' attention, and he had been a member of the Star of the Sea Branch H.A.C.B.S., and the Brian Boru Branch of the I.N.F. for many years. Mr. Burrowes was keenly interested in trotting, and was a foundation member of the Fremantle Trotting Club. He was of particularly bright and jovial disposition, popular and highly respected. The chief mourners were Mrs. Burrowes (widow), Mrs. C. Jansson and Miss Gabrielle Burrowes (daughters), Messrs. Laurie, Bernard and Brian Burrowes (sons), and Mesdames L. and B. Burrowes (daughters-in-law). The pallbearers were Messrs. W. Christie (president of the Master Printers' Association), Aidan Bryan (president of the Fremantle Business Men's Association). J. M. Farrell (secretary of the Fremantle Trotting Club). F. G. Saunders (secretary of the Printing Industry Employees' Union), J. Dwyer (general secretary, I.N.F.), A. W. Collins (Brian Boru Branch. I.N.F. ), J. W. O'Brien (secretary, Star of the Sea, H.A.C.B.S.), and Bert Wade (Fremantle Printery). Members of the H.A.C.B.S. preceded the cortege from the cemetery gates to the graveside. 1935 Fremantle Printer’s Death. The late Mr. Charles Frederick Burrowes, who died yesterday at Albany, was the founder of the Caxton Press,with branches at Perth and Fremantle. Born in Ennis, Ireland, 64 years ago, he came to Western Australia in 1910, and served for some years wita printing establishments at Fremantle. Later he founded his own business at Fremantle, and subsequently extended his activities to Perth. For a number of years past he has resided at 26 Hamilton-street, Fremantle. He was a member of the Irish National Foresters (Brian Boru branch) and of the Printing Industry Employees' Union. (reference)
