Federation Villa with Queen Anne Influences.
No. 14 (previously was no. 26) East street is a single storey house constructed in rendered brick with a hipped and gabled corrugated iron roof. It is a simplified expression of the Federation Bungalow style. The front elevation is asymmetrically planned with a gabled bay complete with polygonal bay, windows and deep barges. The facade features a bullnosed roofed verandah on masonry piers. A masonry wall has been built at the verandah edge.
HISTORY
1906 Funeral. The Friends of the late Mr. Patrick Henry Fay late (warrant officer) bandmaster of the Fremantle Infantry are respectfully invited to follow his remains to the place of interment, the Roman Catholic portion of the Karrakatta Cemetery. 1935 Accident Witness Wanted. The Fremantle branch of Traffic Department is anxious to get in touch with persons who witnessed an accident in High-street, Fremantle, near Union Stores Ltd., about 5.30 p.m. on Thursday last. According to information supplied to the police, Doris Chuck (16) of 26 East-street, Fremantle, was crossing High-street, when she was supposed to have been struck by a motor car. An earlier report indicated that a push cyclist has been concerned in the accident. Miss Chuck was yesterday admitted to Fremantle Hospital suffering from head injuries and was detained for treatment. (reference)
1936 Beach Episode. Four Youths Charged. Detectives Deny ‘Third Degree’ An occurrence at Leighton beach on the night of December 27 last led to the appearance of four young men. Before Mr. Justice Draper and a jury In the Criminal Court yesterday. Mervyn Austin Cordingly (19), Eric John Beard (19), Arthur Charles Dearle (22), and Alfred Joseph Houlahan (20), were charged conjointly with having committed rape on a 17-year-old girl. All of the accused pleaded not guilty. The prosecution was conducted by the Crown Prosecutor (Mr. C. B. Gibson)....William Sim McGillivray, Government Bacteriologist, told of having examined certain stained articles of a woman's clothing on December 31 last. 1947 Fremantle Cases. Admitting having obstructed the traffic, two men were each fined £15 with 1/ costs in Fremantle Police Court today. They were labourer Stanley Wilfred Chuck (26) of East Street, Fremantle and carpenter Archibald Harold Thomas (38) of Cleopatra Street, Palmyra. (reference)
