ARCHITECTURE

Inter-War, Bungalow w Georgian Influences

No 9 Irwin Street is a single storey house constructed in brick with a hipped tiled roof. It is an expression of the Inter-War Bungalow style. The front elevation is asymmetrically planned with a full width return hipped roofed verandah. The verandah is supported on timber posts. A gabled entry bay aligns with the front door. The door is central located with a hopper light and is flanked by a bay window and a casement window. The bay window features sets of casement windows. The roofscape features a tall brick chimney and finials.

1934 Social on Monday evening, at their home in Irwin-street, East Fremantle, Mr. and Mrs. Henry Jeffery entertained a number of friends, the principal guest being Miss Mabel Pell, who will leave by the Strathand on March 27 for a holiday trip to Fiji. Dancing and music were enjoyed, Messrs. J. Griffin, J. Black, Mr. and Mrs. W. Danielson, Miss G. Jeffery and Mr. J. Faulds contributed items. At supper good wishes were extended and a presentation was made to Miss Pell by her fellow members of the Clonlea Tennis Club. (reference)

1935 Tandem Attempt By Amateurs. On Sunday the well-known Fremantle Amateur cyclists, D. Stevenson and R. L. Brickhill, will attempt to establish a tandem record from the Fremantle Town Hall to the Perth Town Hall and return, covering 25 miles for the full distance. The riders will leave Fremantle at 7 a.m. The event was to have been held on Sunday last but was postponed. (reference)
