ARCHITECTURE

Inter-War Diagonal Plan Bungalow Porch house w Federation Influences

No 5 Walter Street is a single storey house constructed in limestone, brick and rendered brick with a hipped and gable tiled roof. It is a very fine expression of the Inter-War Bungalow style. The place was modified internally and externally in the 1990s. It is asymmetrically composed with a thrust gable bay and a part width return broken back roof verandah. The verandah is supported on square columns set over rendered piers. A brick and render brick balustrade spans between the piers. The verandah has a gabled entry that reflects the California Bungalow style. The half- timbered gable bay features a bay window over a curved limestone wall. The bay window has lead lighted casement windows and a sunhood over it. There is a central door and hopper light flanked by sidelights and sets of casement windows. The roofscape features timbered gables, brick chimneys and ram’s horn finials. The place sits on limestone foundations.
