ARCHITECTURE

Interwar Bungalow w Georgian Influences

No 57 Oakover Street is a single storey house constructed in brick and rendered brick with a hipped and gable corrugated iron roof. It is an expression of the Inter-War Bungalow style. It is symmetrically composed with a full width skillion roofed verandah supported on timber posts. A gabled porch is located at the centre of the verandah and marks the entry. There is a central door flanked by pairs of windows. The roofscape features a rendered chimney. The lower walls are face brick and the upper walls are rendered brick.

1930 Mary Hansen, 57 Oakover-street, East Fremantle.”...The council man came to our place the other day with numbers for all the houses in the street. This was quite a relief, for mostly all our letters have been put in other people's letter-boxes. But now that we all have numbers, everything will be alright…” (reference)

1937 Washday Tragedy. Petrol Explodes in Tub. A finding that the deceased died at the Fremantle Hospital from severe shock following burns received through an explosion of petrol at her parents' home on February 8 was delivered by the Acting-Coroner (Mr. J. M Farrell, J.P.) in the Fremantle Courthouse yesterday, at the conclusion of an inquest concerning the death of Joyce Ethel Wright (3 1/2 years). Mr and Mrs James Henry Wright the parents of the little girl, who was their only child, reside at 57 Oakover-street, East Fremantle. (reference)

1941 Funeral Notice. The Friends of Mr. and Mrs. Herbert E. Hobbs, of 57 Oakover-street  East Fremantle are respectfully informed that the remains of their late dearly beloved daughter Betty will be interred in the Anglican portion of the Fremantle Cemetery. (reference)
