ARCHITECTURE

No 29 Alexandra Road is a single storey house constructed in brick and rendered brick with a hipped and gable tiled roof. It is a fine expression of the Federation Queen Anne style. It is asymmetrically composed with a thrust gable bay and a full width return hip roofed verandah supported on turned timber posts with timber fretwork. There is a gable bay to the corner of the house. Both gable bays feature sets of double hung sash windows. The entry door is located on the south elevation under the return verandah. The roofscape features tall rendered chimneys. There are rendered quoins and sills which are decorative.

HISTORY

1927 Mesdames Fisher Beard and Digby Beard had quite an exciting time recently when they visited their husbands, who were camping on Garden Island. They went to the island in Mr. Digby Beard's fine yacht the Matalee. Deciding to go home by the Emerald, which they intended to catch at Rockingham, Mesdames Beard put off from Garden Island to catch the Emerald. Imagine their surprise when they met the Emerald going full steam for Fremantle, a couple of miles out of Rockingham. The result was that Mr. Digby Beard had to stop the Emerald on the high seas and transport his passengers by the yacht's Dinghy. (reference)
