Federation / Inter-War Domestic Carpenter

No 29 Petra Street is a single storey house constructed in timber framing and weatherboard cladding with a hipped corrugated iron roof. It is a fine expression of the Inter-War Bungalow style. It is asymmetrically composed with a full width return hip roofed verandah. The verandah is supported on timber posts with brackets. A central gable over the verandah marks the entry. There is a central door and hopper light flanked by sidelights and double hung sash windows.

1937 Death on July 4, at Perth, as the result of an accident, Theodore Joshua Duncan, dearly beloved husband of Christina Maud Duncan, of 29 Petra-street, East Fremantle, and loving father of Ronald Keith Duncan; aged 41 years. (reference)

1937 Mr. Duncan was born at Melbourne, Victoria, and came to Western Australia with his parents, Mr. and Mrs. John Duncan, when an infant. He had resided at Fremantle practically ever since. During the war period Mr. Duncan was on home service with the Royal Australian Naval Reserve. He volunteered for active service but was refused permission and was retained for service here. After the cessation of hostilities Mr. Duncan joined the service of Messrs. J. and W. Bateman, of Fremantle, where he remained for seven years. He then spent about two and a half years on the Big Bell, Youanmi, and Mt. Magnet goldmines. For some time he was with the General Constructional Co., Ltd., and latterly with Mesas. Hawkins and Son, following his trade of carpenter and joiner. Mr. Duncan was of a quiet disposition and was highly respected and especially devoted to his home and Family. (reference)
