1950 Super Truck Overturns. Phillip Ernest Cockroft of 21 Bedford Street, East Fremantle, driver of a semi-trailer unit loaded with superphosphate was lucky to escape injury when his vehicle overturned after failing to negotiate a bend on Brookton-Aldersyde Road, just before 10 o’clock on February 10. Cockroft, who was travelling alone, failed to notice the bend, which was approximately one mile from town, as he approached and consequently had to suddenly swing his vehicle to follow the road. The semi-trailer portion slid in loose sand on the outside of the bend, swinging the vehicle from the road formation and causing it to overturn, the vehicle was fairly extensively damaged, although Cockroft was not even scratched and was able to walk to town for assistance.
