ARCHITECTURE

No 194A Canning Highway is a single storey house constructed in limestone, brick and rendered brick with a hipped and gable corrugated iron roof. It is a fine expression of the Federation Bungalow style. It is asymmetrically composed with a gabled thrust bay and a part width bull nose roofed verandah. The verandah is supported on timber posts with a decorative valance board. A vertical timber balustrade spans between the posts. The half-timbered gable bay features a set of casement windows with hopper lights under a sunhood. There is a central door and hopper light flanked by sidelights and a pair of double hung sash windows. Walls are random coursed limestone with brick quoins. The roofscape features large rendered chimneys.

1916 Death on January 26, at Georgetown, South Australia, Mary Brogan, relict of the late Nicholas Brogan, and mother of William Brogan, East Fremantle. The deceased aged 86 years, arrived in South Australia from Ireland in the year 1848, and was a colonist of 66 years. (reference)

1923 Death on October 14, Cottesloe, Mona, the dearly beloved wife of James A. Cook, of Nyora, Canning-road, East Fremantle, and second daughter of Mr. and. Mrs. P. E. Pethorick, of 81 Ocean-road, Cottesloe Beach, aged 25 years. (reference)

1940 Funeral. The Friends of the late Mr. Harry Wiley, Chemist, of Adelaide-street, Fremantle, and of 194 Canning-highway, East Fremantle, are respectfully informed that a private service will be held at the Crematorium Chapel, Karrakatta. (reference)

1945 Cable From Airman. Mrs. L. Wiley, of 194 Canning Highway, East Fremantle, has received a cable from her son, Flight-Lieutenant Bryan Wiley (25) stating that he is safe in India, hopes to be home soon. He joined the R.A.A.F. as a cadet in 1939, was later captured in Java. (reference)
