ARCHITECTURE

Federation Villa with Regency Influences

No 77 (previously known as No 137) Hubble Street is a single-storey cottage constructed in tuck-pointed brick with a hipped and gable corrugated iron roof. It is a fine expression of the Federation Bungalow style. It is symmetrically planned with a central door and hopper light flanked by side lights and pairs of double hung sash windows. The facade features a full-width bullnose roofed verandah supported on turned timber posts with a decorate timber frieze. A vertical timber balustrade extends between posts. A set of stairs leads down the garden. 77 Hubble Street (originally 137) was built before 1909. Photos in the Fremantle City Library History Centre show the house in the 1940’s when the verandah was enclosed to make a sleep-out.
