ARCHITECTURE

Interwar Bungalow W/ Arts & Crafts Influences

No 70A Oakover Street is a single storey house constructed in brick and rendered brick with a hipped and gable tiled roof. It is a fine expression of the Inter-War Bungalow style. It is asymmetrically composed with a full width return hip roofed verandah. The verandah is supported on square columns set on piers. A vertical timber balustrade spans between the piers. A prominent gable extends above the verandah. There are central doors flanked by double hung sash windows. The roofscape features a brick chimney.

1935 Harbor Worker Hurt. A lacerated scalp was sustained by William Hughes (38), carpenter, of 70 Oakover-street, East Fremantle, when he was struck violently on the head by an iron girder on North Wharf today. The girder was being moved into position by an electric crane. His condition is serious. (reference)
