ARCHITECTURE

Late Victorian / Early Federation, Georgian Influences

No. 63 (previously was no. 111) Glyde street is a single storey residence constructed in limestone and brick with a hipped corrugated iron roof. It is a fine example of a Federation Bungalow style house. The front elevation is symmetrically planned with a central door and hopper light flanked by double hung sash windows. The facade features a full width bullnose roofed verandah supported on timber posts over a timber floor. A vertical timber balustrade spans between the posts. The openings have brick quoins. The house is elevated above the garden. A timber framed stair leads from the garden to the verandah.

HISTORY

1920 In loving memory of my dear husband, William Jackman, who died August 17, 1919.

“No one he loved was by his side, To hear his last faint sigh, To whisper just one loving word Or even say good-bye”....Inserted by his loving wife.

“We often sit and think of dear Willie, When we are all alone, For memory is the only friend That grief can call its own. And when we're alone and thinking of the ones that are gone from us, We can hear our darlings whisper "Weep not, dear mother and father, For a little while longer, And we shall meet again." Inserted by his loving mother and father, Martin and Ellen Jackman, 111 Glyde-street, East Fremantle. ”Farewell to you, dear brother, Sweet thoughts of you we'll keep. Although twelve months have passed away, our grief is just as deep” Inserted by his loving sisters and brothers. (reference)
