ARCHITECTURE

Early Federation / Gothic w Simple Classical Influences

No. 4 (previously was no. 6) Marmion street is a single storey house constructed in rendered masonry with a hipped corrugated iron roof. It is a simple expression of the Federation Bungalow style with later modifications. The front elevation is asymmetrically planned with a full width return skillion roofed verandah. The verandah is supported on Tuscan columns set on brick piers. The verandah treatment and rendering to the walls are later modifications.

HISTORY

1920 The funeral of the late Mr. Thomas Power, of No. 10 Little Howard-street, Fremantle, who died on February 28, as a result of an accident, took place on Monday afternoon... and was largely attended. The deceased, who was in his 60th year, was born at Waterford, Ireland, and was one of the earliest pioneers on the goldfields. He leaves a widow and one son. The funeral cortege moved from the above residence, and proceeded to St. Patrick's Church, Adelaide street, Fremantle...The chief mourners were: Mrs Power (wife), Mr. William Power (son), Margaret and Eileen Power (granddaughters), James Power (grandson), Jack Dorgan (nephew). The pall-bearers were: Messrs. E. C. Mayger, president, F. Chaney, secretary, and S. Duncan (Perth and Fremantle Operative Bakers' Union) and P. J. Dunn, T. McMahon, and C. Holmes (Fremantle Lumpers' Union). (reference)

1926 Death on February 3 at the residence of Mr. and Mrs. J. Forrester, 6 Marmion-street, East Fremantle, Vivian Adams, dearly-beloved daughter and step-daughter respectively of Mrs. and Mr. J. Forrester, loving sister of Florence and Oswald Adams; aged 28 years. (reference)

1939 Death on February 9, at her residence 6 Marmion-street, East Fremantle, Catherine Beatrice Forrester dearly beloved wife of James Forrester, beloved mother of Oswin (Fremantle), Florence (Mrs. J. Higgins, Brisbane, Queensland) and fond sister of Josephine (Mrs. F. A. Walmsley), Gertrude (Mrs. W. H. Wood) and Florence MacKinlay; aged 69 years. (reference)

1948 Death on June 8 at Fremantle, James Robert Forrester of 4 Marmion-street, East Fremantle, husband of the late Catherine Beatrice Forrester, and dearly beloved step-father of Oswin Adams; aged 75 years. (reference)
