Inter-War, Bungalow w Federation Influences
No 31 Dalgety Street. ‘Minden’ is a single storey house that was constructed in brick with a tuck pointed verandah (subsequently rendered c1960’s or early 70’s) and hipped tiled roof. It was a fine expression of the Federation Bungalow style, built c. 1918/19.
“Evidence of the tuck pointing was there when we bought the house in 1975. The northern side of the veranda was an enclosed sleep-out which contained a kitchen/ dining with exposed tuck pointing. We removed the sleep out and had the brickwork rendered to match the rest of the veranda/house. I assume the whole house rendering was done c1960s or early 70s.” Robert Cox 2022
The front elevation is asymmetrically planned with a full width return hip roofed verandah. The verandah is supported on timber posts with post brackets. The front facade features a set of casement windows with hopper lights. The entry door is on the south elevation under the return verandah. The roofscape features a pair of rendered chimneys. A set of concrete steps goes from the verandah to the garden.

“My wife, then girlfriend, Meagan Moraday took possession of this property in April 1975 after our offer of the asking price of $25,000 was accepted. The house was vacant until we assumed residence following our marriage at St John’s Church Fremantle, on the 4th October 1975… Our first priority was to install a gas hot water system in 1976. An internal toilet and laundry was added in 1977 prior to extending the residence in 1985 to accomodate a new kitchen, a family room and a lower ground room. A garage was added in 1987. An ensuite was added to the master bedroom in 2006 and the deteriorating original tiled roof was replaced with colorbond iron in 2010. Children raised in this home being: Damian Cox b 1978, Bradley Cox b 1980, Zoe Cox b 1982 (m Gardiner), Callam Cox b 1993”
