Only Son of Thomas and Susan Ruffley of Riverside Rd, East Fremantle, WA. Born in Stalybridge, Lancs, England.
On 3 August 1916, he was charged at sea (HMAT A37) with being absent without leave for 1-day breaking ship at Cape Town. He was admonished and forfeited one days’ pay.
He was admitted to the Military Hospital at Devonport on disembarkation on 25 August 1916.
He was classified Class A on 13 September 1916 and proceeded to France on 24
November 1916 with the 3rd Divisional Ammunition Column.
He was remustered as a Gunner on 20 April 1917.
He was detached to the 3rd Division Trench Mortar Batteries on 21 April 1917.
