Special prize winner in the 15 Aug 1937 Sunday Times (reference)
Ingredients:
6 cooking apples
1 cup seeded raisins
1 cup brown sugar
1 teaspoon cinnamon
small lump of butter
water
Method:
Core apples and peel from top to about halfway down and put in baking dish
Mix raisins, sugar, cinnamon and butter together and stuff the centre of the apple with the mixture.
Fill spaces between apples with leftover mixture if there is any
Pour in enough water to cover bottom of baking dish and bake slowly until apples are tender and the syrup like caramel.
