Prize winner in the 05 Jul 1936 Sunday Times (reference)
Ingredients:
3 tablespoons dripping
½ lb (225 g) plain flour
1 tablespoon sugar
1 tablespoon golden syrup
1 cup of milk
1 teaspoon of carbonate of soda
Method:
Rub dripping into flour then add sugar and golden syrup.
Heat milk and mix in carbonate of soda.
Add to dry ingredients and place in sealable steaming tin.
Steam for 3 hours and serve with custard sauce.
