California Bungalow Influences
No 92 (previously known as No 162) Hubble Street is a single-story house constructed in timber framing, weatherboard and fibrous cement sheet cladding with a hipped gabled corrugated iron roof. Some of the styling is derived from the California Bungalow style. The place is asymmetrically planned with a gable thrust bay and a gabled roofed verandah. The verandah is supported on square timber posts. There is a central door flanked by a pair of French doors. The gable bay has a set of three casement windows with a sun hood over it. Walls are clad with weatherboard to sill height and then fibrous cement sheet cladding above. The limestone steps go from the driveway to the raised garden bed and verandah.
HISTORY
1912 In loving memory of my dear husband, Samuel Taylor, who departed this life on August 1, 1911, at Victoria-road, Richmond, East Fremantle. 1937 Accident. Edward George Taylor (32), of 162 Hubble street, East Fremantle, received lacerations above the right eye when he was knocked down by a car driven by Robert Walker, of 162 Petra-street, Palmyra, in Canning-road. Mr. Taylor was taken in a St. John ambulance to the Fremantle Hospital where he was detained for treatment. (reference)
