Interwar / Bungalow Porch House

No 51 Petra Street is a single storey house constructed in rendered brick with a hipped corrugate iron roof. It is a much altered expression of the Inter-War Bungalow style. It is symmetrically composed with a full width skillion roofed verandah. The verandah is supported on timber posts. There is a central entry door flanked by windows. The doors and windows appear to be replacements. The roofscape features a render capped chimney.

1933 Cyclist Seriously Injured Crash at Sports Carnival. Perth, April 2. A cyclist was seriously injured and two others received painful wounds when they crashed in a race at the Labour Day sports carnival at Fremantle Oval yesterday afternoon. A fourth rider fell as he crossed the finishing line and received minor injuries. In the final of the one mile handicap for senior amateur riders a group was rounding the bend before sprinting for the finishing line at the end of the straight. Several of the group swung wide and, following a collision, a number of machines struck the fence dividing the track from the grandstand enclosure, throwing the riders on to the bitumen track. ...In the same race Ernest Lobb (17), of 51 Petra-street, East Fremantle, fell as he crossed the finishing line, as a result, it is thought, of the front wheel of his machine touching the rear wheel of that of a rider in front of him. He was detained at the Fremantle Hospital suffering from a lacerated hip and shoulder. (reference)
